The Six Most Popular Stars Visited On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame
The Hollywood Walk of Fame is now over 60 years old and has over 2500 stars, but new stars are placed every year honoring new, and sometimes old, entertainers and actors. However, there are a few stars that remain legendary on the Hollywood sidewalks. These are the stars most visitors want to see and take pictures of or with.
The host of the long-time SelfTour Walking Tour App of Legendary Hollywood, Johnny Grant, not only served as Hollywood’s honorary Mayor, but also hosted over 500 of the star unveiling ceremonies every time a new star was placed. According to Johnny, and those who currently manage the Walk of Fame, here are the most sought after stars on the Walk.
Marilyn Monroe
A certain young lady named Norma Jean Mortensen used to sit in the lobby of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel hoping to be spotted for her big break long before she became famous around the world as Marilyn Monroe. Her very first commercial photo shoot took place at the Hotel’s pool.
Marilyn was honored with a posthumously dedication ceremony on her birthday in 1992. Marilyn was born in Los Angeles, and grew up in the Hollywood community, but fans all over the world will always adore her!
Johnny Depp
A new comer to most of the others on this list is Johnny Depp. Probably most famous for his mega-hit Pirates of the Caribbean film series, he has always been loved for his portrayals of eccentric characters. His first big hit film was Edward Scissorhands for the also eccentric and hugely successful director Tim Burton. Depp has also garnered acclaim for portraying real people such as John Dillinger in Public Enemies.
It’s reported that his films have grossed over $6 billion worldwide. It is fun to watch the number of people taking pictures of his star in any period of a day.
James Dean
You are probably surprised with this one. James Dean made his presence felt around the streets of Hollywood during his short lifetime. His rebellious character forever changed the style of acting in motion pictures and made him a cult hero. He is perhaps best remembered as the handsome, but troubled, loner in Rebel Without a Cause. On the road to an automobile race in Salinas, California, James Dean died behind the wheel of his Porsche Spyder. He was 24 years old.
Sadly, Dean’s untimely death made him eternally symbolic of the “Live Fast, Die Young” reckless Hollywood star. Using the GPS guided SelfTour Legendary Hollywood walking tour app you will be guided to James Dean’s star and these popular stars, some of which are difficult to locate.
Elvis Presley
Elvis Presley is regarded as one of the most important figures of 20th-century popular culture. He is widely known by the single name “Elvis is often referred to as the “King of Rock and Roll” or simply “The King”. Presley was one of the originators of rockabilly, an up-tempo, backbeat-driven fusion of country and rhythm and blues.
RCA Victor records acquired his contract in a deal arranged by Colonel Tom Parker, who was the singer’s controversial manager for over two decades. Presley’s first RCA single, “Heartbreak Hotel”, released in January 1956, was a number one hit. He became the leading figure of the newly popular sound of rock and roll with a series of network television appearances and chart-topping records. He also starred in 31 movies.
Donald Trump
Nine years almost to the date before he became President of the United States, Donald Trump was honor by a star on the Walk of Fame. His status as a real estate developer was amplified by the success of the shows he produced including the Miss Universe Pageants and the NBC hit show The Apprentice.
Trump is the second United States President to have a star. The first is Ronald Reagan. The only other major politician to have a star is Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was Governor of California for two terms. Trump’s star is both one of the most visited and the most vandalized. Or shall I say Trumped on!
In 2018 someone took a pick to his star and destroyed it. The next morning there where Donald Trump stars everywhere on the Walk. These vinyl stickers looked almost as real as the regular stars. Other stars have been vandalized including those of Hugh Hefner and Bill Cosby.
Michael Jackson
Vying for popularity with the “King of Rock and Roll” is Michael Jackson, the “King of Pop.” Michael has the advantage is counting the number of people visiting his star because, as they say in real estate, “location, location, location.”
Michael’s star in directly in front of the very famous Chinese Theater, probably the most visited location in Hollywood. And it is only a few feet away from Michael’s hand and foot prints in the cement of the Chinese theater’s forecourt.
