The Heritage Of The Award-Winning Lights Of Liberty Show In Philadelphia Lives On Through The Selftour™ Historic Philadelphia GPS Guided Walking Tour App.
Many visitors and residents to Philadelphia recall the spectacular sound and light show that took place in the historic area of Philadelphia called Lights of Liberty. Produced by Miziker Entertainment for then Mayor Ed Rendell (later Governor of Pennsylvania) and the City, this very successful show was groundbreaking in its method to tell the story of Philadelphia’s role in the founding of America.
The award-winning show took the audience on an experience covering five blocks as they walked through the great events of the American Revolution. Utilizing giant projections different visual effects and an incredible 3-D sound track the audience experienced actual events while walking in the footprints of our nation’s founders. During its emotional and inspiring final scene at Independence Hall, many in the audience were moved to tears and many joined in the singing of “God Bless America” along with the choir and orchestra on the soundtrack.
Lights of Liberty ran nightly in the summer for 13 years. Many were sad to see it go including its Producer, Ron Miziker. So he decided to do something about the void it created. The result is the SelfTour™ Historic Philadelphia GPS Guided Walking Tour App. “Utilizing much of the research done for Lights of Liberty, while adding our same storytelling and showmaking experience, we created this tour to again bring the emotional story of America‘s beginnings to the Philadelphia visitors.” says producer Ron Miziker.
This Historic Philadelphia SelfTour™ uses music, voice recreations and sound effects to enhance the colorful narrations and makes it available through each person’s smartphone or pad via the App. It is about a two-mile walk on level city streets and through Independence National Historic Park. The route is a complete circle so you end up where you started. As with all SelfTour™ Apps one can start anytime at any point along the tour route, stop and continue on at one’s own pace and schedule. The GPS system always lets one know their location and the spoken turn-by-turn directions make the tour easy to follow and practically eliminates getting lost. Leave maps and tour books at home.
The goal was to give the tour some of the same emotional impact as the memorable Lights of Liberty show and the reviews have been great. Certainly this tour is entertaining and educational for persons of all ages. And the price is very reasonable — about the same as a fast-food lunch.
