Be in Hollywood for the Excitement of the 92nd Academy Awards.
This will be only the second time in history that the Oscars will be presented without a host of the show. Much of the excitement will be outside of the Dolby Theater, right next door to the famous Chinese Theater. The big night is February 9th, 2020.
From there it is a short walk a half a block away to the Roosevelt Hotel, the site where the very first Academy Awards were held.
In front of the hotel, look for the stars for Andy Garcia, Kirsty Alley, Eddie Murphy and singer Julio Iglesias Pause at the entrance to the Roosevelt Hotel where you find the star for Oscar winning actress, Holly Hunter, who is also a seven-time Emmy Award nominee for drama series like Saving Grace and Roe vs Wade.
A certain young lady named Norma Jean Mortensen used to sit in the lobby of this hotel hoping to be spotted for her big break, long before she became famous around the world as Marilyn Monroe. Her very first commercial photo shoot took place at the hotel’s pool.
In 1929 the Roosevelt’s ballroom served as the location for the very first Academy Awards, so you could say Oscar was born right here. You can still see the ballroom. The Best Actress went to Janet Gaynor, who was nominated for three motion pictures, sending home Gloria Swanson and Mary Pickford empty-handed.
Tickets for that event cost a whopping $5… and they didn’t sell out!
